A field drain is one part of directing water away from problem areas.  It can be used as part of a wet basement solution and many times to dry out that wet yard.  A field drain is a trench that is layered with a water vapor barrier to collect and funnel water, a layer of gravel, perforated pipe and then different size gravels to serve as a natural filter process to keep large items from clogging the pipe.  They pipe has perforations that collect the water and move it away from the trouble area.  A field drain is a very effective way to move water away from a basement, foundation, low point in yard, etc.  If more than a field drain is needed, you will probably need a specialist to analyze and create a solution that could include berms and swales or even a complete re landscape.
